While we would be thrilled for you to choose a Corgi as your forever companion, we want to make sure you know all there is to know so that you are best prepared to care for your puppy long term. Here are a few common questions about the breed. We encourage you to do your own research as well.
Generally, corgis are WONDERFUL with children. They are known for being incredibly loyal to their family. However, Corgis were originally bred to be herding dogs, and as such, they may try and herd your children around. As with any breed, it is best to always provide supervision of your child when they are with your puppy/dog.
No! Corgis actually have a double coat and produce a fair amount of dander, so if you are someone that is really allergic to dander, this breed may not be the best option for you, unfortunately.
It has been our experience that Corgis are a friend to all. We have yet to own a Corgi that did not treat the other animals as they would want to be treated.
My first response would be No, however, it would really depend on your individual lifestyle. If you are willing to engage your corgi in outside activities daily and go hiking on the weekends etc, this could be a possibility. A bored Corgi is a naughty Corgi.
yes. be prepared to brush regularly and get out your vaccuum!
You can expect a commitment and friendship of about 12-15 years
Corgis are highly intelligent! They are a lot of fun to train. They typically start learning things much sooner than other breeds and seem to retain everything. They love to work and most enjoy herding, agility, scent work, and obedience/tricks.
